Pat Killingsworth was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in April 2007, and has been actively writing on the topic ever since, authoring three books, and regularly posting to both his own blog “Living with Multiple Myeloma” and The Myeloma Beacon.

Following the introductory portion of the general meeting, the two groups will move to separate forums in order to enable more specific conversations among members. On Thursday, April 25, Philadelphia’s City Council proclaimed Saturday, April 27, as “Myeloma Awareness Day” (not coincidentally, the same day as the Miles for Myeloma fundraiser). Several members of the PMMNG were present to witness the occasion, and publicly thanked the council for its support in raising awareness of the disease, and for recognizing the PMMNG’s organizational efforts over the past 15 years.

RESCHEDULED FROM FEBRUARY 9: Frequent guest speaker Dan Vogl, MD, of the Abramson Cancer Center (who, with Edward Stadtmauer, MD, serves as Medical Advisor to the PMMNG), will report on recent research findings from the American Society of Hematology’s Annual Meeting of December 2012. Dr. Vogl’s annual presentation is always greatly informative, providing new insights into forthcoming treatments and evolving standards of care for multiple myeloma.

Join us for our first meeting of 2013 at the Ralston House on Saturday, January 12, from 1:30 to 3:30 PM, when we welcome guest speaker Colin Oliver, PhD, Senior Medical Liaison with Onyx Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Oliver will discuss and answer questions about Kyprolis™ (carfilzomib), which was developed by Onyx and recently approved by the FDA. He will also address: other potential myeloma drugs, such as oprozomib, currently in the Onyx pipeline; related clinical trials; and the Onyx 360 program.
