The Fifth Annual Miles for Myeloma 5K Run/Walk took place on Saturday, April 27, 2013. On behalf of the fundraising committee, thank you for making our event such a huge success! Donations totaled nearly $140,000, well-exceeding our anticipated goal…we are so grateful to all of the walkers, runners and volunteers. Race results are posted at Run the Day. Photos can be seen here.
A SPECIAL NOTE TO THE RUNNERS: To our knowledge, we were the only organized event with a permit from the City of Philadelphia that was allowed to be on MLK Drive the morning of April 27. After our timing company marked our course and we sent our volunteers out to manage it, another group put a cone on the road about 2/10ths of a mile prior to our official 5K turn-around point. As soon as we were made aware of this, we sent a volunteer to remove the cone. A representative from the Fairmount Park Commission was at our event and was made aware of the confusion that this caused our runners. We are a 5K event and this is the first time in our history that our course was compromised by an unauthorized group. We have already put a plan in place for 2014 to make sure that this does not occur again, and we appreciate your support and understanding in regard to this matter. Please feel free to contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
