Myeloma Education Resources

Being given a diagnosis of multiple myeloma can make you feel like you’ve just been rocketed to a new planet. There is a ton that you need to learn about life on this new planet, including a whole new language. It’s scary and daunting. Fortunately, several multiple myeloma support organizations and foundations provide excellent materials to help educate myeloma patients and caregivers about the complexities of the disease. Here are some of our favorites.

• Blood Cancer United – lots of publications, webcasts, online chats, online support groups and more for all blood cancer patients and their caregivers. (Former the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society)
  
• HealthTree University – a comprehensive curriculum of video-based classes, ranging from the basics to fairly detailed. More classes are being added regularly.
  
• International Myeloma Foundation – the IMF’s “Understanding Myeloma Series” is a great way to learn about the basics of multiple myeloma, the lab tests we a given, and the treatments we receive.
  
• Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation – the MMRF’s “Patient Toolkit” provides good information about important topics for new myeloma patients to understand.
  
• Oncolink –  Affiliated with Penn Medicine, OncoLink is one of the oldest cancer information sites on the web! Its information is free, and includes patient education materials about cancer treatment, support, medications, side effects and survivorship.
