Myeloma Education Resources
Being given a diagnosis of multiple myeloma can make you feel like you've just been rocketed to a new planet. There is a ton that you need to learn about life on this new planet, including a whole new language. It's scary and daunting. Fortunately, several multiple myeloma support organizations and foundations provide excellent materials to help educate myeloma patients and caregivers about the complexities of the disease. Here are some of our favorites.
- HealthTree University - a comprehensive curriculum of classes, ranging from the basics to fairly detailed. More classes are being added regularly. Affiliated with the Myeloma Crowd foundation.
- International Myeloma Foundation - the IMF's "Understanding Myeloma Series" is a great way to learn about the basics of multiple myeloma, the lab tests we a given, and the treatments we receive.
- Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation - the MMRF's "Patient Toolkit" provides good information about important topics for new myeloma patients to understand.
Another aspect to multiple myeloma education is us educating others about the condition. To help with that, a letter that you can provide to your doctors who may not be aware of multiple myeloma is attached below. This letter introduces them to what multiple myeloma is and what warning signs they should look out for in their patients.
