May 2023 PMMNG Meeting: "Dietary Evidence and Research in Plasma Cell Disorders" Presented by Dr. Urvi Shah
The Philadelphia Multiple Myeloma Networking Group (PMMNG) will hold its next regular monthly meeting on Saturday, May 13th, from 1:30 – 3:00 PM by Zoom. This meeting will feature a presentation and discussion led by Dr. Urvi Shah from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center entitled "Dietary Evidence and Research in Plasma Cell Disorders." We will discuss overall evidence on nutrition and cancer, mainly plasma cell disorders (such as multiple myeloma), that is available to date. We will also discuss ongoing and published research on diet, microbiome and other modifiable risk factors in plasma cell disorders.
Dr. Urvi A. Shah, MD, is an Assistant Attending in the Myeloma Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. She completed fellowships in hematology/oncology at Montefiore Medical Center, and in cancer immunotherapy at MSK and the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy in New York. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology. Her clinical practice includes all plasma cell disorders and her research interests include immune therapies and modifiable risk factors (diet, metabolism, and the microbiome).
We also will have our usual small group discussions, where we talk about any topics related to multiple myeloma that folks bring up. Please bring any questions you may have about your journey with myeloma. As always, patients and care partners are welcome to attend.
All PMMNG members will receive a Zoom meeting invitation via email. If you are new to the group, contact Barbara Falkowitz (b[email protected]) to receive the meeting link.
We look forward to seeing you on Zoom!
